Traveling in itself is an exciting experience, filled with wonder and endless possibilities but you have limited space to equip yourself with everything you may need for your exciting trip ahead. It’s best to prepare in advance because even the most seasoned travelers tend to forget something. So consider this your friendly reminder to pack the essentials first, before there’s no more room in your stuffed suitcase.

1. Cleanser and/or Makeup Remover
We should all know by now the importance of cleansing your face after a long day of traveling, especially after wearing makeup. It does your pores no good to clogged while you’re on vacation so save yourself the grief and cleanse every morning and night. For me, I have several different cleansers so I pick the best one depending on the current/anticipated state of my skin prior to traveling and the weather conditions of my traveling destination. If my skin is dry and flaky, I use ClearChoice Hydrating Cleanser. If my acne is acting a fool, I use ClearChoice Mandelic Cleanser and Differin Daily Deep Cleanser when I want to gently exfoliate. If you pack a good one that can double as a makeup remover, I suggest cleansing twice to make sure you’ve thoroughly cleansed your skin of makeup and impurities. If you prefer you remove your makeup first then cleansing, I have loving micellar waters lately, but makeup remover wipes are more convenient. There’s so many of either to choose from, you really can’t go wrong with whichever you prefer.
Whether it be after cleansing, after applying all of your makeup, or after a long day of traveling and your skin needs a mid-day pick me up, there’s just something about a great facial spray and/or elixir that can really change how you (and your face) feel the rest of the day. Traveling always dries my skin, especially while flying. I personally love to keep Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with me in my purse during plane rides and from time to time I will mist myself like no tomorrow. It’s a great way to keep your skin hydrated. I also really enjoy Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir because it’s part serum and part toner with essential oils and it smells lovely!
3. Moisturizer/Moisturizing Mask
In my opinion, a good moisturizer is probably the most important essential you should take along with you while traveling. My esthetician introduced me to two skincare lines by DermaStart that tremendously helped with my adult acne and the hyperpigmentation scars that were left behind. Using both Prana SpaCeuticals, their organic spa skin care products, and ClearChoice, their medically inspired skin care products, I was able to settle my sporadic acne flare-ups. My favorite moisturizers in these lines are the Prana Reishi Shield with SPF 45 for daytime use and the ClearChoice Hydrating Masque. Lately, I’ve been on a Caudalie kick and love using the Vinoperfect Overnight Renewal Cream. This set is perfect because it comes with their wonderful essence and serum.
Just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean you should skimp on your skin-care routine—in fact, you should probably take care of your skin even more. Keeping skin well washed and hydrated is the key to looking and feeling great while away. That’s why I recommend bringing your favorite travel size friendly serums and/or face masks along with you on your next traveling adventure. From the above kit, I love Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, it’s great at illuminating your skin and unifying skin tone. When I feel like I need something more powerful, I like to use the Dr. Dennis Gross Universal Pads. Not only do these packets work to slough off dead skin cells, but they also help to clear out blackheads and fade sunspots to give you a radiant glow, on-the-go.
No matter where you are traveling to, you should pack sunscreen or at least pack other beauty products that have at least SPF 30 in them, such as moisturizers, bb creams, primers, foundations, and even facial mists! Coola makes a variety of different beauty products that all have sunscreen so there’s no good excuse for not having any SPF while traveling. When I just need to use a light sunscreen, I like using the CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion with sunscreen. And when I anticipate being in the sun longer, I use Shiseido Urban Environment SPF 42. Regardless of which sunscreen you like, just remember to use it. Aint nobody got time for premature aging and wrinkles, especially when they can be avoided.
6. Basic Makeup Necessities
With a good CC cream and concealer you could practically take over the world, or least feel like you can. I love using the IT Cosmetics CC Cream while traveling because it is a full-coverage color-correcting cream, anti-aging skincare with high-performance brightening, and nourishing ingredients including hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and vitamins. Can’t go wrong with all of those benefits. Also, a hard-working concealer is an absolute must-have for any red-eye trip where you’re not expecting to get much sleep. Pack a high-coverage concealer like this slim NARS Radiantly Creamy Concealer.
7. Basic Hair Care Necessities
My biggest beauty challenge when I’m traveling is my hair. Sadly, my color treated hair is not wash-and-go hair with any ol’ hotel shampoo. When you’re on the road, you don’t always have time for much styling. So anything that makes the on-the-go hair routine faster is sure to find its way into my luggage. This Oribe Holiday Travel Essentials Bag has the loveliest scented products that will leave your hair feeling luxuriously smooth. It comes with shampoo, conditioner, dry shampoo, lip treatment, and rollerball fragrance. Another set I love is the Ouai To Go Kit with their wonderful wave spray, hair oil, and dry shampoo.
I, for one, am obsessed with enchanting scents that transport you to faraway lands at just a whiff. That is why I always travel with a minimum of 3 different perfumes, sometimes I pack more (yes, I’m extra AF and proud). In order to decide which will be the right perfumes you’ll need to take, you must anticipate the situations you’d need to wear them. Are you visiting the Amalfi Coast in Italy and plan on soaking up the sun on the beach? I’d wear Tom Ford Soleil Blanc or Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. Plan on having a romantic candlelit dinner with your beau in a sweet little Italian restaurant? I’d suggest Love by Killian or Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. Are you simply looking forward to wandering through awe-inspiring museums, strolling the streets of a new city, and simply living in the moment? Yes, I even have a suggestion for that, Tom Ford Vanille Fatale or Chanel Chance. I’m sure a lot of you aren’t as crazy as I am for taking full sized perfume bottles while traveling (only when and where permissible), but there are plenty of rollerball perfumes and travel-friendly sized perfumes these days so you don’t have to miss out on your favorite fragrance while on the go. Killian makes the most beautiful and sturdy travel atomizers. They come empty so you can choose which scent you’d like, and they’re easily refillable.
In conclusion, my suggestion is to envision what you will be doing while you’re traveling and pack accordingly to those needs (even if that means bringing 8 perfumes along with you- like I will be doing). If you enjoyed this post, you may enjoy my Italian Beauty Products.
Happy travels!
